Côte d’Ivoire general information
The CENTRE’2018 international event will hold in Abidjan, capital of Côte d’Ivoire, an ancient French colony and lower-middle-income country that gained its independence on 7 August 1960. Côte d’Ivoire means “ivory coast,” and its economy relies mostly on cocoa export. The country is located on the Atlantic coast in Africa’s Gulf of Guinea, in the northern hemisphere between the Cancer and Ecuador Tropics, (delimited between 10° and 4° of north latitude and 10° and 0° of west longitude), with a population of around 25 million. Abidjan and Yamoussoukro are the economic and administrative capitals respectively.
The conference will hold on the Université Félix Houphouët Boigny (UFHB) campus in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, located at GPS coordinates: 5°19’00.5″N 4°07’07.7″W (5.316800, -4.118800)
Evidence of the first human presence in Côte d’Ivoire dates back to the late Paleolithic (-15,000 to -10,000 years), with fragments of weapons and tools discovered in this geographical area. There are remnants of the first metallurgy industries dating from the 1st millennium.
The country suffered the tragedy of slavery by the French, as the entire African continent, after the establishment of trading stations on the coast by the Portuguese between the fifteenth and seventeenth century.
